Science and Christianity - 22 September 2009 |

Thanks to everyone at Knock Presbyterian Church, Belfast, who made Sunday evening’s talk on Science and Christianity such a lot of fun.
We began by reflecting on some of the challenges raised by the so-called ‘New Atheism’, and went on to respond with a few comebacks of our own. Here’s a flavour of what some of the New Atheists have been saying.
Steven Weinberg:
The world needs to wake up from the long nightmare of religion … Anything we scientists can do to weaken the hold of religion should be done, and may in fact be our greatest contribution to civilization.
Peter Atkins:
Science and religion cannot be reconciled … Religion has failed, and its failures should stand exposed.
Richard Dawkins:
I am utterly fed up with the respect we have been brainwashed into bestowing upon religion.
Well, at least they don’t beat around the bush.
If you want to hear how the rest of the evening went, you can listen to the talk here.
