For obvious reasons, it wasn’t possible to get hold of the great man in person.

Nonetheless, BBC Radio 4’s Beyond Belief has devoted a whole episode to John Calvin, to mark the 500th anniversary of his birth. For one reason and another they asked me to take part.

If I remember rightly, there were some entertaining moments – not surprisingly, since the other contributors were a Roman Catholic (John Haldane, St Andrews University) and a Methodist (Tom Greggs, Chester University). Light the blue touchpaper…

As I remember it turned into a good old-fashioned ding-dong at a couple of points.
